Need a nvidia card that is simple to install

I have been looking in ebay and it looks like I can buy any Nvideo Card I want. So Im looking for something that is inexpensive But it has to be easily installed as far as the drivers are concerned . Ideally just install it and it can be recognised and drivers installed and set up. It probably is asking for to much but Im new to linux and Ive read a few descriptions of installing drivers and I dont have a clue. My old Via/s3g is freezing the screen. I need very little when it comes to a video card, I dont do games, I watch some you tube . So simple and inexpensive is the word.

Go for a cheap card, but be sure to buy at least a card of the 6000-series or higher. Older cards are not supported by the newest NVidia drivers.
But if you don't do games or other performance-hungry stuff you should be fine with the free nouveau-drivers. If you have a recent version of your distro they should be pre-installed, so plugging in the card should be enough to get it working.

Thanks for the response I have a Nvidia xfx 6600gt coming and I looked on Nvidia page to install drivers and I read a couple of confusing install pages and at the end it had a hypertext that said ,read me,So I hit it and it went to a set of directions that was just about a little smaller than War and Peace. If I run into those type of problems, my new 6600 will not get up and running.

Assuming that you use Ubuntu, you can use the graphical installer from Ubuntu (can be found under System->Administration->Hardware Drivers) or from the command line with
Code:
sudo jockey-text -e xorg:nvidia-current
sudo nvidia-xconfig
With both methods you have to restart your system after the install.

Thanks for the response,
I went to ---additional drivers--- and there is nothing in it and it says across the top -----No proprietary drivers are used on this system---- Theres a help button, a close button and a enable button. So I guess to use this installer you have to put the driver that you want in the additional drivers program (installer) How do you do that?

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

You should be able to extend within the original and get the required information to come to a decision on what to do about the card(s) to purchase. This is a forum not a chat line.

So please continue to participate here on LQ but think about how you are presenting the queries.

FYI: Netiquette is a set of social conventions that facilitate interaction over networks, ranging from Usenet and mailing lists to blogs and forums.
