MS Wireless Keyboard 3000 F keys do not work

I have not been able to get any F keys to work, F2 etc. Anyone have a similar issue? I can't find much about it. I am running Slackware 13.1

Hi,

Try this;

To change the keyboard model, use the XkbModel option in the keyboard InputDevice section. For example, if you have a Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard:
Option "XkbModel" "microsoftmult"
Do a search for other kybd styles.

Ok, so I tried this
Keyboard layout (Xorg 1.7)

# cp /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi /etc/hal/fdi/policy/

Then open /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi and edit "us" in input.xkb.layout to what you want and, if necessary, edit input.xkb.variant too.

For the changes in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi to take effect, you should restart HAL:

copied /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy

and edited the line <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">microsoftmult</merge> did a complete reboot and still nothing. The KB is identified as a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Receiver 3.1.

Hi,
Since the policy didn't work then what about the xorg.conf fix for the kybd?

under input devices I added

Option "XkbModel" "microsoftmult"

I would also add that pressing ctrl+alt+f2 etc does not switch my terminals either.
