mounting cdrom -- strange owner

Hi,

when mounting cdrom, I find all the files owned by user 501 (which does not exist on my computer AFAIK). The fstab looks like

Code:
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
and after mounting the listing looks like

Code:
-rw------- 1 501 501 2275830 2007-01-01 23:18 _mg_7664.jpg
-rw------- 1 501 501 2616636 2007-01-01 23:19 _mg_7665.jpg
-rw------- 1 501 501 2592631 2007-01-01 23:20 _mg_7669.jpg
-rw------- 1 501 501 2620441 2007-01-01 23:21 _mg_7670.jpg
Most of the files are only owner-readable, a few are world-readable.

Any idea how can I make myself to owner of everything on a cd?

This is a debian etch box:
Code:
Linux tancredi 2.6.18-5-686 #1 SMP Sun Aug 12 21:57:02 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
Thanks in advance,
Ott

Hello

Strange indeed. To be really sure user 501 doesn't exist try:
less passwd | grep 501

Why would you like to become owner of the files? What would you like to do that you can't do now?

Bye

The problem is that most of the files are only readable by 501, so I cant read them unless I become root.

I believe this particular cd is made with a mac (not sure though), and hence the permissions reflect the ownership and permission on that box.

It would be nice to force all the files to be owned by me when mounting the cdrom.

Thanks anyway,
Ott
