Strange one

Ok,I got an old clunker of a pc right, and Im trying to install slackware 10.2. When I try to use the cdrom I pop in a cd, hit the cdrom button to close it, and it (The cdrom tray) opens up on its own in about 2 seconds. Keeps doing this the entire time. I was able to install slackware up to the second disk. Wouldnt accept the second cd. Now if I put in knoppix or slackware 10.2 first install cd it wont accept it either. Anyone know off the top of their head why it might be doing that?

Sounds like your drive is toast. I had this same problem with a drive a couple of years ago. I ditched the drive and all was well.

Have you tried a paper clip in the so called auto eject hole?

Thanks, Im gonna stick in one of my spare cdrom drives and see if thats the fix, no I havent tried the paper clip thing yet.
