I want to buy a new LCD Flat Monitor...
I just want to be sure... Can there be any problems with Linux support? Should I be awere of something (in terms of Linux support) before I buy new LCD screen.
17' TFT LCD Monitor costs a lot today so I just want to know that it will work without problems on my Debian Sarge.
Not that I'm aware of. I'm using a Viewsonic VX710 which is excellent. Note that the cables on most LCD's use standard connectors, but also come with a DVI converter adapter if that's what you want to use. Bottom line though, No, I don't think there's anything in particular to be concerned about by switching to LCD.
Personally, I *love* the fact that the monitor now only weighs maybe 10 pounds (vs. about 50 previously) plus I have control over my actual (physical) desktop again -- that monitor is pushed back all the way to the wall and I have a huge amount of flat surface space that has suddenly become available again. LCD's are excellent -- J.W.
Also some monitors just will not display a screen during boot when using DVI. Who knows why. I've tried everything and not sure what is causing it. Perhaps its the brand (Sceptre), age, maybe even my video card. No forum has ever had a solid fix on the issue, but anyway thats another story for folks who care.
I've heard that most of the main stream manufacturers, like Samsung and Viewsonic rarely have issues.
