Configuring a Flat Panel LCD Screen

I inherited a flat panel LCD Screen that is very nice and has been running well on my Windows system. I'd like to configure it for Linux, but dont have any parameters.

I got to thinking...would that be necessary with this anyway. There is no horizontal or vertical scan rate cuz there is no sweep. Its all LCD. Does anyone have any experience in configuring this for Linux? I am about to install for the first time, and trying to get all my ducks in a row with regard to hardware before I install.

I will be using a Rage Fury Pro/Xpert 2000 Pro video card, which is what Windows uses.

Im curious to know how Windows doesnt have to know all these parameters about your monitor..it only communicates with the video card...yet Linux has to know about both, even though its ONLY connected to the Video card?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I don't know whether I'm talking rubbish or not but I seem to remember having setup problems at work and only setting "framebuffer device" options worked for the monitor. It was a few weeks ago and I was very tired - so i can't remember exactly. Sorry!

sorry about the dual post...I had posted over on the newbie board first, and figured that wasnt a good place esp since no one responded.

I was going to delete that one but saw no delete option.

So I guess I wont get an answer now
