Intel soundcard not detected in FC4
(I'm running Fedora Core 4 on a Toshiba Tecra M1 laptop.)
I have a problem with FC4 detecting my sound card. When I run autodetect, it identifies my soundcard as:
Vendor: Intel
Model: Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller
Module: snd-intel8x0
However, when I play the test sound, I hear nothing. It then tells me that soundcard detection has failed and sound will not be available on this system.
I don't believe it.
I read here (google search "Tecra M1 sound card" and click the first result for the site- the forum won't allow me to post URLs) that the soundcard is supported by the i810_audio driver, but I don't know where to specify for the system to use that driver (plus, the article's outdated). Does anyone know?
There's also another strange thing I've noticed. If I turn up the volume all the way, I can hear the speakers pop a bit when it tells me it's initializing the audio (after "storage" and "network" and close to after the kernel boots). I don't quite know what to make of this. I know the speakers are functioning correctly, because they beep when I enter the BIOS, but other than that, they don't make noise.
They DO beep when I am in the rescue mode shell booted from the first install disc. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
