IBM thinkpad with debian linux - issues with mic

I am having issues trying to get the mic on this T400s thinkpad up and going. I have installed alsa and checked the controls. I also tried acpi_listen and tried to push the mic mute button and got no reaction. The only thing I have been able to find is stuff related to Arch Linux that I cannot run on this machine. The "thinkvintage" button does not work either, but I could care less about that. I had no problem setting up the fprint as well as the navigation controls.

Might help, might not.

Code:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
Sorry but it is late here and I am going to crash for night.

Give members

Code:
uname -a
and

Code:
cat /etc/os-release
to give them a idea on what you are running. Usually when I wish to troubleshoot mic problems. I install

Code:
harry@biker ~ $ apt-cache policy mhwaveedit
mhwaveedit:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.4.21-2
  Version table:
     1.4.21-2 0
https://gna.org/projects/mhwaveedit/

Use the command I showed to see if it is installed . You can install it with

Code:
sudo apt-get update
first. Let it finish.

Then when done

Code:
sudo apt-get install mhwaveedit
Just throwing out my eeepc fix (probably won't apply to your IBM. Different hardware). Just showing a screeny I took
of mhwaveedit in the thread.
