Howto switch off harddisc because of inactivity


Hello,
I have a 2nd harddisc in my linux server, that is needed to run only 2h a week during backup.

is there a way, a command to switch off harddics while running a red hat 9 based linux distrib. ?

Read the 'hdparm' man page.

Code:
hdparm -S timeout_for_spindown
If your devices are SCSI or SATA, then download 'sdparm'...

Code:
sdparm --command=stop /dev/your_device
