HF Photosmart 5620 requires a shared file for out put. How to create one?

When I try to scan on my new HP Photosmart 5620, the window says 'Make sure the printer software is installed on your computer, and that "Scan to Computer" is enabled via the printer software." I set up the printer via system settings|printers, but there is nothing there about scanning. I have checked to make sure I have HPLIP installed, and called for updates where applicable. What else do I need to do?

You need the sane package set up and working, I imagine.
