Post Help! Why my samsung dvd rw can not be found???!!!

Hi,all dear friends here!

Last week I bought a new pc,and I wanna install the mandrake linux10 which I downloaded and burned in Aug.2004. After I reboot my computer and saw the first GUI installation guide of mandrake, I jumped to the ceiling of my house but then I fallen down on the floor because I found that the mandrake warned me"can not found the cd rom device"!
Gosh,my rom is a samsung toshiba dvd rw.And I heard the mandrake 9.0 version already supported the dvdrw hardware,so what's wrong with my mandrake linux? is my linux kernel too old(version 2.4) or something else? I am also suspecting the old version's problem but I don't have a newest kernel by now,and can not download a new one in my office(boss is watching me....),until next week I can go online in my own home ,but,I am so desperately to know the problem right now....

Help me please
with sincerely wishes

to find out what kernel version you are using try:
Code:
uname -r
post the content of /etc/fstab
and tell us how you connected the dvd-rw (secondary master, primary slave, etc)

to Mr Circle

Mr Perfect Circle:

Frankly, the problem happended at the very first begining of my mandrake linux installation,so I even can not finished my installation....,but I know the kernel must be 2.4***.

anyway, your's "check how you connected your dvd rw" really gives me a good hint! so I am gonna go back home to see that and tomorrow I will tell you.

Thank you very much for your help.

sincerely.
