Frame rates drop after after video cards are switched.

I am running Mandrake 10 Official on the following equipment:

Athlon Tbird 1.3
Iwill KK266 mobo
1 gig of ram
GeForce3 Ti200(64mb)

Going back in time, when I was running Mandrake 10 Community without the Nvidia drive installed I was getting 200 fps. I installed Official, which automatically installs the driver, and I get 2000 fps.

A friend of mine gave me a GeForceFX 5200(128mb). I swapped this one with my old GeForce3. At boot up, Mandrake detected it and I went through the dialog which has me designate what my new card is. I selected GeForceFX and finished booting up. I ran GLX Gears, and I'm getting 600 fps!

What is the problem? This, presumably, uses the same driver as the other card? This is a newer, faster card, why is it slowing things down?
