6800GT frame rates and system instability?

I have a 6800GT with 256Mb of DDR3 ram (PCI-E)
AMD64 3500+ (3Ghz)
2x512Mb ram modules
KN1 Extreme Motherboard

My frame rates vary a lot with 3d and 2d games

supertux : 70 fps
planet penguin racer : 300 fps
GL117 : 55 fps

Compared to the frame rates I get in Win-doze these are very low.

2d frame rates are very low especially on the desktop (Kde).
This makes scrolling painful.

Plus it seems that my system is quite unstable as programs go down on a regular basis.
Though I have never had a total Freeze.

I run SUSE 9.2 and I have the relevant Nvidia drivers installed.

Why am I having these problems

You obviously don't have 3D enabled. You need to download and install the nvidia driver (www.nvidia.com).
