Force Linux to run at 60hz refresh rate

Ok, this is driving me mad.

My monitor flickers like crazy at 1280x1024@85Hz
The only resolution where the screen stops shaking is at 60Hz refresh rate.

My Red Hat 9 is doing a great job at keeping the resolution high, but
it's really hurting my eyes to the point where I can't do anything productive with linux.

How can I set it so that I can run at 60Hz refresh rate? ( I know it sounds weird )

My monitor is HP D2838 M700 17-inch
Horizontal refresh: 30.0-86.0
Vertical: 50.0-160.0

I have a Geforce2 GTS video card ( ASUS V7700 )

Thanks

Here's part of my X86Config:

Try generating a new modeline using this link it should get the job done:
http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl
then put it in there with the other one and comment that one out, then restart x.

here's a for-instance:
Modeline "1280x1024" 114.98 1280 1312 1744 1776 1024 1045 1055 1076 #60hz
