problems with refresh rate on a dell! (stuck to 60hz)

Hi everyone!

I just bought a dell dimension 2400 and decided to install fedora. Everything worked perfectly and fedora found and installed my hardware!

My problem is that I cannot change the refresh rate from 60Hz (1024*768)! The integrated graphics card is an intel 845 which can handle 120Hz in this resolution. The monitor is a dell P992 which also can handle 120Hz.

When I change the Vert. Refresh in XF86Config and restarts the screen just goes blank and I have to switch back to 60 hz =(. xvidtune tells me that my chipset can't be tuned!

What should I do??? 60 Hz is not enough when you are working a lot in front of the computer... I hope anyone have some answers! Thank you!

Just a guess... be sure not to try forcing V and H freq to incompatible values.
Remember it must be H>V*numlines, so 768*120=92K, H should be at least 100K (for there is a go-back delay)

Had the same problem with the dell dimension 2400 and intel 845G grahics card.

This problem was fixed not so long ago: (25-jan-2004)
766. Fix refresh rate setting for 845G/856G systems that don't support the
Intel-specific refresh rate BIOS calls (Bugzilla #1106, David Dawes,
reported by Lucian Precup).

After installing the latest 4.4.0 XFree86 version which contains the fixed i810 driver the problem was finaly solved!
