eSata hotplug system freezes with fc7

I'm currently having problems hotplugging my eSata drive after upgrading (fresh install) from fedora core 6 to fc7. The drive worked perfectly on my old system

basically whenever I connect or disconnect my HDD via eSata, the system instantly freezes, no useful log messages or anything, and the only way out is a hard reset.

My current system :

Fedora Core 7
kernel 2.6.23.1-21-fc7

hardware in question:
---------------------

A7n8x-x motherboard (nforce2)
AMD athlon 64 2200+ CPU

external HDD is a sataII western digital 500gb wrapped in an XCraft Coolermaster case.

anyone info, similar problem etc, or can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
