Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Erratic Sound Levels

Hello,

I have problems with erratic sound levels, that coupled with headphone occasionally cause me physical pain.

The volume level changes unexpectedly perhaps when trying to adjust the volume of some music a little bit, it will go to either max or min. Or when a video starts in a web-page, it is set to max.

I'm using the sound-card on a gigabyte X79-UP4 m'board, Opensuse 13.1 with pulseaudio.

I suspect that this is some sort of minor Linux incompatibility. So one solution would be some sort of hard limit on the max volume on the output?

Thanks,
Phil

that is likely the videos issue

I'm using KDE.

I don't think its the videos, it happens with all sorts of things. I can see the volume change in the pulseaudio volume control window. It goes straight to max. Also minor adjustments in a music player or something can cause the volume to jump to either the max or the minimum.
