Erratic sound on HP Pavilion dm1 netbook

Hi,

I have a fresh install of Slackware64 14.1 on an HP Pavilion DM1 netbook. The PC works nice so far, though I seem to have to fight every step to configure everything correctly. Video and wireless are working well so far, so the next step is sound.

The first few startups, I got the KDE startup sound correctly. But now, it's gone mute for some mysterious reasons. When I launch Audacious, I get the following error message:

ALSA error: no suitable mixer element found.

There seem to be two sound cards on this machine:

Code:
[root@buzz:~] # lspci | grep -i audio
00:01.1 Audio device: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] Wrestler HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6250/6310]
00:14.2 Audio device: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40)
What should I do here to have sound? Blacklist one card and configure the other? How?

Now we need to tell the system to use the “HDA ATI SB” controller by default (and not the HDMI audio output)
Code:
# cat >/etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf <<EOF
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd_hda_intel index=1
EOF
