Unhappy Dlink DFE-530X+ with Mandrake 10.0

I am having trouble getting a D-Link DFE-530TX+ working on a system running Mandrake 10.0. This is an older system with an AT style Azza motherboard. The NIC card is recognized on boot but eth0 fails to initialize. I have tried to run harddrake2 and reconfig the card as via-rhine and fealnx - but everytime I select "autoprobe" the system comes back to the same harddrake2 screen - asking me to "Select the network interface to configure" - with the options being "Manual" or "eth0: D-Link Inc|DFE 538 TX". So no matter what I try the system will not bring up the network.

uname -r = 2.6.3-7mdk

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
