Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Can't write to DVD

I just updated my Fedora OS (from release 30 to 32, if it matters) and suddenly I can't burn DVDs any more. Is there a flag I can't find that somehow got cleared (or set), did I forget to ask for a driver, or what? It worked fine before the update, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the hardware.

What is the command you use, or the app you use to burn the dvd with?

Can you read a dvd using the burner device?

I've tried both Xfburn and opening the file with Disk Image writer. Xfburn tells me "Burn mode not currently implemented" and Disk Image Writer has the DVD drive grayed out so I can't select it as a destination. Yes, either way it's a new blank DVD-R just off the stack of new ones.

I haven't tried a CD or data disc, but if I put in a movie DVD it plays just fine.

Who owns (user/group) and what are the permissions on the DVD device (/dev/sr0)? You might need to add a group membership to your account. For example, on openSUSE and Slackware, /dev/sr0 is owned by "root:cdrom" with permissions of "660". It might be necessary to add your account to the "cdrom" group. The previous Fedora release may have had "rw" permissions granted to "other" and the new release clamped down on the device security.

HTH...

Okay, thanks; I'll investigate that and get back to you when I can.
