Cannot write to a DVD but can write to a CD on same drive?

Ive got a combo DVD writer and I can use K3B to write to CDs but when I try to copy stuff (pics or anthing data)onto a DVD, it does not work at all and I get no error messages, where should I start to look for the solution to this problem?

First, start k3b. Go to Tools menu, Configure k3b. Click on Devices. You should see information about your drive. For the dvd, does it indicate that you 'can write dvd yes/no'.

If it indicates no, then you may be missing the dvd write utilites: DVD+RW-Tools. Check to see that they are installed.

It says yes to all but DVD/R Dual layer. I dont use dual layer anyway so that should not matter right?
