ATI 9700pro, Mandrake 9.1, FireGL 4.3 drivers - help!
I'm trying to play RTCW:ET on Mandrake 9.1. Mandrake 9.1 has Xfree 4.3 installed with 3D acceleration but ET only "tried" to load up with the Mesa software driver. ET didn't load up all the way because I then received a Signal 11 error.
I decided to find official ATI drivers for my video card. Unfortunately ATI only has drivers for version 4.1 and 4.2 of Xfree. I found a link on this message board to the Schneider 4.3 fireGL drivers for Xfree 4.3 and GLib 2.2 and 2.3.
Anyway, I downloaded the drivers and installed them in a console only environment. I followed the exact directions.
The first step was to run the RPM file. The second step was to run a configuration file called fglrxconfig. I ran the configuration without a problem. The third step was to navigate to a prebuilt kernal and run sh make.sh to build the kernal. When I do this, I get the following:
ATI module generator V 2.0
==========================
kernel includes at /usr/src/linux/include not found or incomplete
file: /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h
And back to the command line..so it seems nothing was built. After the kernal is built, the instructions say to build the make_install.sh file but when I do this, I get the following:
ATI module generator V 2.0
==========================
kernel includes at /usr/src/linux/include not found or incomplete
file: /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h
[root@localhost build_mod]# cd..
[root@localhost fglrx]# sh make_install.sh
*** WARNING ***

Afterwards go to /lib/modules/fglrx and run './make_install.sh'
in order to install the module into your kernel's module repository.
(see readme.txt for more details.)
As of now you can still run your XServer in 2D, but hardware acclerated
OpenGL will not work and 2D graphics will lack performance.
failed.
And at this point, I really don't know what else to do. This actually screws up KDE and I can't even get any visual interface, just a black screen. I have to go and reconfigure the video/monitor settings to get back into KDE.
So basically, I'm trying to get the right drivers installed on my machine so I can play RTCW:ET and other 3D accelerated games on my PC. I'm trying to use the fireGL drivers because ATI doesn't have drivers that support XFree 4.3. If anyone has has experience with this and can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm new to Linux and this was my first attempt of having to build a kernal.
Thanks in advance, Pablo
