Alsa snd_hda_intel

I created a custom kernel for CentOS 7 and the sound card is coming up as card 1 instead of zero. I need it to be zero. With the stock kernel it comes up as device zero. I failed to force it with:
options snd-hda-intel index=0

It still comes up as card 1. When I look at:
cat /proc/asound/cards
1 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7338000 irq 53
[root@TI-BOS ~]# ls /proc/asound/card0
[root@TI-BOS ~]# ls /proc/asound/card1
codec#0 id pcm0c pcm0p

The weird thing with the output above is the empty card0 directory. I can change the following to 1:
defaults.ctl.card 0
defaults.pcm.card 0

however I have been given the requirement that it be card zero. Any direction would be great, thank you for your time.

Hi:

Try launching alsamixer in the terminal and choose F6 to select your snd crd.

Read post #8 in this thread. That should help.

Thank you for your help.

The problem was that I had installed the system dual boot RHEL 7. One was barebones and the other has more bells and whistles like pulse audio.

The default /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf contained "defaults.pcm.card 0" this works great if you are using Pulse Audio, but not plain Alsa. I changed to "defaults.pcm.card 1" on the barebones and all is well.

You're Welcome:-
Glad to hear it's working.

I ran Centos for a few years and liked it.

Is RHEL hard to run?

RHEL 7 is the same as Centos and both are now systemd, seems pretty similar to the other systemd based Linux distros.
