ALSA and multiple uses

Dear Friends,

I am having openSuse 11.1 (despite i think this is not important) and i am having a very annoying problem. I obviously use ALSA for managing my sound, but if i use eg SKYPE then i cannot listen to a video in youtube or whatever. I cannot use sound for anything else except for only 1 application. this is VERY annoying. how can this be fixed? if i need to change management system instead of alsa i don't mind. just tell me what to do! i think that would be great if someone knew. Thanks a lot!
