Unhappy Configuring alsa to start multiple sounds

i have fedora and kernel 2.6.2 installed on my comp. i am unable to configure alsa so as to start multiple sounds at the same time. The alsa version is 1.0.2.
Plzzzzzz help me configuring it.

well, agree with u but i have seen on my friends' comps that while xmms is using the sound driver, other applications that use sound like gaim, system sound, etc also work on the same time. But thats not on my comp. if u have any explanations for that, then plzzz let me know.

I believe that that becomes available in kde 3.2, anything before that it just isn't possible. I may be wrong though, but i think i read that somewhere
