Which sound daemon

I know that alsa will not allow multiple programs to acess sound at the same time. Which sound daemon do you reccomend which is easy to set up. I knwo of JACK, alsa aRTS, esd, NAS etc. A note, i use neither gnome or kde.

Well, arts is kind of slow and esd is kind of quirky. I personally don't bother using a sound daemon anymore, and it hasn't really been a problem.
