Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Exclamation Enlightened Sound Daemon Problems

It used to be the case that when I logged in to Enlightenment on my Gentoo Linux system, the sound would not work until I started kde over the top of Enlightenment. However, just recently this stopped working for some strange reason and now the Enlightenment sounds do not work at all. When I try to enable audio in Enlightenment I now get this message:

'Audio was enabled but there was an error communication with the audio server (Esound). Audio will now be disabled'.

And in fact, strangely, I tried enabling audio again and no error was displayed, but the sound still doesn't work! Please can anyone tell me what's going on?
