What UPS do you use?

Just wondering what brands of UPS folks use, how they like them, etc.

I'm in the market for one. I run RH8 on my server and I'd only like the UPS to power that one computer, monitor, DSL Modem and switch. I'd really like to find one around $100 that will keep power for about an hour.

Thanks!

Oh, and what auto-shutdown software do you use with it?

I use a Belkin Gold 525. The GUI monitor (called Bulldog) works well in both windows and linux.

I recently tossed two CyberPower UPS in the garbage. Thought I got a deal on them at Best Buy. Even got CyberPower to replace one and it crapped out again within months (would switch off for no apparent reason.) The APC UPS I have has worked great for years. Also have a very reliable Opti UPS but I don't think they make them anymore. Only thing I've ever had to do to those is replace the rechargable batteries every few years, and they're standard types I can buy at my local electronic parts store. A fringe benefit of swithing to an LCD screen is I got about 15 minutes more uptime without buying a bigger UPS. Don't have my Linux box setup with one yet, though, so can't help ya with the software issue. Hmm, might try to do that today, now that you mentioned it. They both use serial interfaces so shouldn't be too hard, though I think most newer models are USB now. Anyway, I'm a big APC fan, even the cheap models come with beefy transformers.

BTW Cynthia, I found two Linux progs. One is specifically for APC UPSes, called apcupsd, and the other is a more generic prog called nut . Nut comes with client/server components for monitoring over a LAN and CGI routines for WAN monitoring via a web page too. Pretty neat stuff.
