VMware and kernel versions

I am trying to install VMware in RH 7.1. I read that 6.2 is supported and any distro based on 2.4 kernel is not "directly supported". Has anyone gotten it to work on a 2.4-based distro? If so, how? Thanks!

I successfully installed with the instructions provided. Though, I have not yet updated the kernel as it suggests.

I sure did. I am using RH 7.1 as the host. I intend to (if I can get it to work) install Win2k as a guest. VMware seems to work well in RH6.2, but not in 7.1. It looks to me, after reading the docs, that it is not directly supported in 7.1. It complains about the kernel when compiling. It seems to like 2.2.x, but not 2.4.x. I was just wondeing if there was a work around. I am trying VMware more for kicks than anything else.
Thanks!
