Suse 8.1/KDE 3 Menus Gone

I just installed Suse Linux 8.1 with KDE 3.0.3 and when it booted up for the first time and I logged in as root, there are no application selection under the menu. If I log into Gnome, it works fine, but I want to use KDE... anyone have this happen?

Should I reinstall?

No need to reinstall. Just update or upgrade your KDE.

There will be less apps shown up as root because you probably don't play or work as root but rather administering your system ;-)

Create user while you are in root then login as user. The apps will show up nicely. You can go to control center -> Appearance -> Menu settings to do this.

Thanks for the help. Actually, since I use Linux for personal use, or as a network probe for ntop at work, I generally login using root. I should start using a user account... it's a poor habit.
