Ok. I havce been dealing with this problem in linux for about a year now and Its really agrivating. I was running SuSE 9 and at random times, the XServer would just restart. I was using an onboard VIA video card and I was told I should upgrade my videocard so I went out and got a Geforce2MX and it still happens?

Is this a monitor issue? I have a ViewSonic E771 monitor that I went to their website and added custom sync ranges that mean the specs that are posted on viewsonics website and it still happened.

I also have checked the XFree log and i see no warnings. I dont understand what could be causing this. Help please. I cant stand going back to M$.

Do you notice the problem occuring when you run any particular programme. I used to get what were seemingly random X crashed (it didn't restart as I default to runlevel 3 not 5) but it was actually caused (on my system) by a programe (that was running in the background) misbehaving.

Na, it would crash anytime from running XMMS to clicking the SuSE icon to get the menu. I just dont understand.
