Go to console as root. Run "iwlist scan". Post information about your ad-hoc network (surely, you should replace all unique IDs like MACs with XX:XX:XX instead of whatever they were, but do leave all-zeros or all-ff fields untouched)

Try (as root):
Code:
iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc essid linux
echo Should silently succeed

iwconfig
echo Should tell you that you use the essid linux and AP is Cell 01 Address from iwlist scan

dhclient wlan0
echo Should receive IP..

sorry I made a mistake I tried iwconfig wlan0 mode managed essid mamuni
it succeeds
when I tried dhclient wlan0

dhclient(4509) is already running - exiting.

This version of ISC DHCP is based on the release available
on ftp.isc.org. Features have been added and other changes
have been made to the base software release in order to make
it work better with this distribution.

Please report for this software via the Red Hat Bugzilla site:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com

exiting.

You need Ad-Hoc. Sometimes "ip link set wlan0 down" before iwconfig helps. Sometimes "ip link set wlan0 up" does.
