problem running 'cdrecord -scanbus'

Hi. I 'su' to root and run 'cdrecord -scanbus' and get this >

Cdrecord 1.11a24 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.

I have added append = "hdc=ide-scsi"
in lilo.conf and reran lilo then reboot and still same error.
Did I put the append part in the wrong section of lilo?
It's in the part that says image = linux. I also tried it in the first part
where there are all the video mode selections and still same error.

Is there something else I am missing?

thanks alot

I fixed it. I didn't have 'scsi generic support' compiled into my kernel.
cdrecord -scanbus works now!

Does it matter where I place the append statement in
lilo.conf?

thanks
