What bootloader do you use?
What do you have hooked where on your ide chain?

It's usually done by passing something to the kernel like:

hd<N>=ide-scsi

CD-ROM / DVD-ROM Drives HOWTOs

# Redhat links
RedHat Linux Manuals
Maximum RPM
rpmfind
Easier software management: apt4rpm - Red Carpet
RedHat 8.0 Tips & Tricks

# Redhat 7.3 down configuration commands
setup leads to several configuration tools

# Redhat 7.3 up configuration commands
Configure soundcard:
redhat-config-soundcard
Configure X server:
redhat-config-xfree86
Configure network:
redhat-config-network

lilo

lilo.conf:

prompt
timeout=50
default=linux
boot=/dev/hda1
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
lba32

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-14
label=linux
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-14.img
read-only
append="hdc=ide-scsi root=LABEL=/"

hdc -> CD-Writer
hdd -> DVD

I think you just add another append statement.

append="hdd=ide-scsi"

Save and execute /sbin/lilo

Did you paste correctly? " should be after -scsi. The root statement should be a different line, I think. I have forgotten how to use lilo.
