Print Line Wrapping Problem

Hi All

I have a report that is 180 columns wide and designed to be printed in Landscape mode.

It prints just fine on my older HP-UX system, but I cannot get it to work properly on my RHEL5 system.

I have directed the output to a file and checked for EOL markers etc and there don't appear to be any. However whenever I send this to a printer created using CUPS the output is wrapping at around 108 columns.

I have tried printing directly from the command line using lp -d PRINTER -o landscape -o cpi=18 -o lpi=8 -o page-left=32 -o page-right=32 -o no-wrap OUTPUT-FILE.

I have also tried specifying the cpi, lpi, page-left, page-right and landscape options on the CUPS configuration page.

The slightly strange thing is that the title lines wrap at a slightly different place i.e. the first line seems to wrap at around 65 columns, the 2nd title line around 80 columns with the main body of the report wrapping at around 108.

Another thing of note is that the wrapping will not break an existing field or word, i.e. it seems to wrap only at a space.

I have tried on both an HP 5550 colour laser, and a Konica Minolta copier/printer with using an HP 4 driver with the same results.

I am at a loss to work out what is going on, so any ideas / advice would be gratefully received.

TIA

Stuart

Hi,

I would suggest that you try by doing the conversion of the report file to
a postscript first and then you can print it more easily when you are happy
with the results.

Something like:
enscript -r -f Courier@4/6 -p - report.txt > report.ps

You can use the font size parameter (4/6) to get a font size that is good
for your report.

Best regards,

I had the same problem... it appeared to wrap the last word on each line.

My solution was to add "wrap $false" to the printer options in CUPS.

In Fedora this is in Systems Management, Printers, select the printer and add the option with a value of $false.

Hope this helps you...

Mark
