Line wrapping of LQ content in IExplorer
Yes, I know this is a Linux site but I wouldn't even know where else to ask ...
I come here frequently with IExplorer 6.0 SP1 since my employer has a Win-only infrastructure (no chance for firefox). When I look at threads here sometimes the lines are not wrapped and horizontal scrolling gets to be a real pain like e.g. in this thread here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=506114.
I noticed it happens most often with "code" or "quote" boxes with long lines in them.
Question: Is there any way to get IExplorer to wrap, i.e. does anybody happen to know where I should change the defaults in this *#@! box here?
This isn't a solution to the question exactly, but it's a work-around. You can install firefox portable (http://portableapps.com/apps) on a USB stick (and I presume anywhere on the hard drive). That way, you can use firefox, which doesn't seem to suffer as badly.

Well, on the other hand we had no viruses etc over the last 7 years in a corporate net with ~1000 users, so I can understand the reason of the admins but it floors me cold on this issue .
It happens in Firefox too. Atleast in mine but its manageable. I had to scroll horizontally in the thread you gave. I think it is concerned more with the QUOTE and CODE properties.
Sorry to hear no Firefox for you. Pff.. slaves i tells ya, all slaves of MS.

That link does not scroll for me in firefox - what version are you using? As for IE, there have been a couple layout issues that we've attempted to address to no avail. I don't recall specifically if this was one of them.

Hoy, I could test pwc101's link by now, that version of firefox (2.0) wraps my link (LQ-thread) correctly. Now for an installation on my box at work ...
Konqueror also fails to wrap long lines in code boxes and widens the whole page to accommodate, apparently without limit. Can't find any option to change this behaviour. I guess preformatted means what it says.
Firefox (2.0.0.4) wraps OK.
I have seen at least one forum where the admins break up long lines to avoid this. For example www.whirlpool.net.au breaks long code lines, leaving a trailing hyphen as continuation character. This can be a nuisance as the code then does not cut and paste correctly. But if most visitors use IE it seems like a reasonable thing to do.

Luckily at LQ, most visitors don't use IE The next code update will clean some of the output and CSS up a bit. If things aren't better at that point, we'll address it. Thanks again for the feedback.
