As a default, opera6.ini will be placed in the user directory (~/.opera on Linux, /profile or a sub-directory of /user settings on Windows). For information on how to used system fixed settings files, please refer to the System Administrator's Handbook. In Opera for Macintosh, the file is called "Opera Preferences".

Tip: The easiest way to see where opera6.ini and other Opera files are located on your computer, is to go to Help > About Opera. "http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/"

First things first in your home directory /home or ~/ there exists a hidden file in which you can manipulate settings.
its called .opera, in linux/unix/bsd a "." indicates a hidden file

so first things first I want you to just move this file to a .bak extension.

so open a terminal and do the following after you have closed opera:

>cd ~

>pwd

#verify you are in your home directory

ls -la | grep opera

#Now look at you output and do the following

>mv .filename_you_saw .filename_you_saw.BAK

# And then restart opera and attempt to test settings.
# Make sure you read the documentation.

@jon2kx: The file is actually called operaprefs.ini. We changed the name a while back.

@gis: Do you really want to reset your profile, i.e. start from scratch with no settings, no bookmarks, default speeddials, etc.? Or so you want to change the startup behavior?

If you want to kill your profile read this:
http://my.opera.com/ruario/blog/remo...ra-preferences

If you want to change the startup behaviour so that all your old pages are not displayed, see "Preferences (Alt+p) -> General -> Startup" for options.
