OpenOffice Crashes when opening OLE object

While having run OpenOffice without problems since installing it 8 month ago, I now seem to have run into a problem.
With the spread sheet open, I insert an OLE object, create from file, and select a picture (.png file). When I click on the object to open it, the computer does a complete reset. After the reboot, Windows advises of the critical error (and asks to send a report to Microsoft).
Prior to today, I have successfully inserted, and opened such OLE objects hundreds of times (they open in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer). But as I said, it now crashes the whole computer each and every time. Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch!
