Ok, Here I am again!

LOL

I just can't let this one go

You asked about the floppy thing.....

You will need to know how to post this stuff here to tell people what they need to know to help you.

Until you get linux working you have to get the info to your browser in windows.

You can use a floppy to do it.

Don't give up.

When you figure out the floppy thing you will realise you know more than you think.

Ok the edit command depends on what you use.

If you are using kde there is an editor in the menu called text editor.

you can use it, open the files by navigating to them in their folders.

/etc

is the etc folder which is in the / folder

/sysconfig

is the sysconfig folder that is in the /etc folder

you can go directly to the file by using a terminal

type this command

kedit /etc/sysconfig/network

this will open kedit and open the network file...

again the cat command used that way is only to display the file on the screen or output it to a file, or other process.

hey btb103,

in redhat 7.1, instead of using linuxconf, you can type Setup to configure your network and sound, X... etc...
or its netconfig, not netconf is what your trying to use to configure your network.. but Setup typed as root is a better utility or a easy way to configure stuff without linuxconf for those who don't like editing or feel comfortable editing by hand...

for clarification though, netcfg will produce errors in 7.1... you have to type it out fully like... netconfig

netcfg requires x to be running, because it is a gui.

netconfig runs in a terminal.

if you use netconfig or Setup, it doesn't require X, if you try using netcfg, that one requires X.
