Linux Noob & Internet
Running Mandrake Communtiy 10.0 First install of Linux ever. I have a static ip for internet no router attaced just configure nic works fine in xp. I have tried to setup int using the gui and ifconfig. I can ping myself but cannot ping anything outside. I get host unreachable? Please help I am a complete idiot when it comes to linux.

route -n
What is the address of the gateway on your network?

Destination Gateway Genmask
65.173.171.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.128 eth0
127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 lo
My Gateway is 65.173.168.1

You will need to add a default route like:
route add 0.0.0.0 gw 65.173.168.1
|

Sorry - I should have noticed - your netmask does keep your IP address in the same reange as your gateway - perhaps your IP address or netmask is wrong.
