- what's your favorite food
- name of the dog (Puppy...)
- perhaps a philosophy (Bodhi...)
- How about a word in a (native) language? (Ubuntu and all its derivates)
- an idea (maybe that's what Arch means, an archway to Linuxhood)
- what is the goal? (easy of use: "EZLinux", completeness "360Linux", education "EDUx")
(by the way, feel free to use these, I just made them up for this thread...)
Just rambling!
Hey! Post a link, I want to see your work
Thanks for this thread

Thank you for your quick answer!
I will take into the consideration your advice. Especially I liked the following items:
"-perhaps a philosophy (Bodhi...)
-an idea (maybe that's what Arch means, an archway to Linuxhood)
-(easy of use: "EZLinux", completeness "360Linux", education "EDUx")"
To tell the truth I have no goals yet
Here is my baby: http://www.mediafire.com/?aebbl9a9tnu2l78
There are no many packages installed on my distro yet..
Hey..that's what the guys in redmond say ...because we (the Linuxers) then say, "hey, our choice has yet another degree of freedom", that's the Linux way: freedom to choose what distro fits your needs.
I for one am exited, already downloaded the (rarther small) ISO to try out asap!
Hey, let's all stand around this cradle and speak well over this baby
Nice one, I thought something like that before you wrote it.
IMHO, there are already a lot of pointless "distros" (in my eyes most of them are only re-spins of Ubuntu with other packages installed by default or simply a different default theme).
If you want to make a new distro you should search for a goal first. What do you want to achieve that is not already achieved by other distros? If you can find nothing it would be better to support an already existing distribution. Except it is for learning and fun, then make as many distros as you want.
- name (check)
- logo (still to be checked)
- goal (still to be checked)
- philosophy behind your distro (still to be checked)
- positioning - what sets you apart (still to be checked)
- target group (still to be checked)
Of course, as TobiSGD pointer wisely:
