Angry Lilo

I have a dual boot PC, one physical hard disk (6.4Gb) has Win 98SE and the other physical hard disk (10Gb) has Linux Mandrake 8.0. I run LILO for dual boot Operating System capability.

I want put into the PC a mobile rack and swap Hard Disk cradles whenever I wish to switch OS.

My problem is that I wish to retain each OS on each hard disk, hence I wish to get rid of LILO on the Windows 98SE hard disk.

My two options are far as I can tell is to:
1. Run Windows FDISK /mbr to rewrite the master boot record.
Does this process wipe off the file allocation from the Win
98SE hard disk ?
2. Use Nortons Ghost to ghost the WIN 98SE hard disk, then
FDISK /mbr and put back the ghost image.
I do not know what issues I would have here ?

Any comments.

FDISK /MBR will ONLY touch the MBR. So you have no worries about losing anything. By doing so you are just setting the MBR back to it's original state, nothing else. The only difference you'll see after doing this is that LILO is gone, which is what you want.

By doing this the partitions for Linux will change from (example)
/dev/hdb1...../dev/hdb5 to /dev/hda1...../dev/hda5 and you will need to reflect that in your /etc/lilo.conf file and /etc/fstab file
