kscd CDROM read or access error

Hope someone can help with this one:

Whenever I start kscd, I get :

CDROM read or access error (or no audio disc in drive). Please make sure you have access permissions to: /dev/cdrom.

I have an audio CD in the drive. I have looked at /dev/cdrom. It is a link pointing to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0, which seems to be another link pointing to /dev/hdc. The permissions for all those files seem acceptable. I have tried removing the link /dev/cdrom, but it just comes back on its own after I delete it. I am unable to change any of its permissions, rwx is enabled for all. Does anyone have any ideas????

Thanks,
Danny
