1. is a little weird, what kind of CD do you have in the drive?
2. Ndiswrapper is kind of the wrong tool for the job. Its a driver that creates a wrapper between the linux kernel and a windows driver. Its a good last resort for those unfortuantely saddled with wireless cards that were produced by companies that refuse to release specs enough for there to be a native driver...(cough, damn broadcom): Atheros, however... does have a Linux driver.
Usually you can only grab a snapshot of the code off of CVS from sourceforge, but that's a hastle to explain to anyone, here's a snapshot:
http://madwifi.otaku42.de/madwifi-cvs-current.tar.bz2
Here's the page on it:

Now, you have to have your kernel source onboard. Check to see that there's a directory's worth of stuff in /usr/src/linux, if not... under Mandrake... whew... luckily I did this last week
The Startbarry-thingy -> Computer Management? -> package management? -> and then you want to search for "kernel" and it should prompt you for one of the CDs... 3 offhand if 10.1 is like 10.0.
Post back when you get stuck.
Cheers,
