Worry not for your hardrive is ok, I think. But anyway, maybe the easies thing's gonna be for you to install everything again.
How come you were partitioning your hardrive? what were going to install or what did you have in mind?, give us a little more info, thanks

Rep:
Are you using Mandrake 8.2???
If so, Mandrake's partition program, Diskdrake, is very good at formatting/partitioning things.
Still, probably the easiest thing to do is to re-install, but don't touch your /home partition (unselect it for the partitioning process), make sure you create all the users that exist in the /home partition so that the data can be accessed. When the system comes back up, all that data will be available again and you won't need to re-set all those users.
Partition magic is good but it can't handle everything. Especially, it can't handle journalized file systems like Ext3 and RieserFS. The best thing to do is set your partitions during install. That way you can back up and re-set things easier.
