Installation problem redhat 9.0 on hp proliant dl360 g3
Hello I've got a big problem installing redhat 9.0 .
I want to install it on an hp proliant dl360 g3, this system has also an scsi raid hardisk (maybe is there a problem).
So when I put my redhat 9.0 install disk into this system and just do an install as always hey get's error's over and over again. first an unhandled exeption error and sometimes diffrent errors, sometimes the system crashed fast sometimes he started with installing.
I saw that when i normaly start the installation that the package list was incompleted, but when I start the installation with the next command: linux apm=3Doff then the packages where good again an he started installing but again an error.
I als installed redhat 8.0 and this gives no error, and it works fine.
Does sombody have the same problemes, ore have an sollution for me?
did you check md5sums for the cds? sounds like they may be bad. i haven't tried the cd medium check that is built into anaconda, but presume this would work as well.
I don't no the exact link anymore but here's de readme file jou can maybe searche on the img file name's.
TITLE: Red Hat Linux 9 Professional CD install fails on certain ProLiant servers
==================================================================================
DESCRIPTION:
A CD-ROM based install of Red Hat Linux 9 Professional fails on certain ProLiant servers. The install fails to find the CD-ROM drive and prompts the user to
select the type of install to perform. If CD-ROM is selected the install will again fail to find the drive and the user will end up in an endless loop unti
l another choice is made.
SCOPE:

RESOLUTION:
An updated boot floppy has been created and can be downloaded from: ftp.compaq.com
The floppy is created by using either dd or rawrite.
dd can be used as follows:
dd if=bootdisk.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k
rawrite can be used as follows:
rawrite
Specify the name of the image file when prompted
Specify the "A:" drive when prompted for destination drive.
Once you have created the updated boot floppy, boot the above mentioned ProLiant server on the floppy. You may insert the CD-ROM at any time after the serv
er begins booting on the updated floppy. If prompted, select "install from CD-ROM" and insert the Red Hat Linux 9 Professional CD when prompted.
Installation should continue as normal.
Note: There are two versions of this updated boot disk.
* bootdisk.rhl9us.img is only for retail boxed Red Hat Linux 9 purchased in the US where the md5sum for CD #1 is: "cd8872f2e2e3a42f548ed1bf947709f0".
* bootdisk.rhl9dl.img is for the supported/retail boxed Red Hat Linux 9 purchased outside the US where the md5sum for CD #1 is: "50f414a2135d093a02704b4b513
f92ba" or the unsupported version downloaded from sites such as linuxiso.org where the md5sum for CD #1 is: "400c7fb292c73b793fb722532abd09ad".
I too am having this issue with the HP/CPQ DL360 G3 and loading redhat 9 v3.
After following this thread as well as 2 days of Google search
sprinkled with Redhat support pointing to HP and vise versa, here I am.
I booted with the floppy mentioned in this thread with no success.
One item i noted that made sense during my search on this is to insert the call ide=nodma into a .conf file.
I am a n00b and am clueless as to where to place this call (within moral reason) let alone which .conf
to place it in.
I also have this last question if I may:
I cannot seem to break the installation process to try and make a file edit, let alone which .conf file to edit,
while on the fly. Can i do this and how?
I assume that i will also need to mirror this entry after the a Successful installation, but where?
Here is what I do know:
I know the CDs are good after a md5 check
I know the system hardware is good because i have loaded another os onto it post Redhat 9 failure.
