Ibus can only switch between two languages

Hi Everyone

I am running Trisquel and I posted this to the Trisquel forum but didn't hear back, maybe someone can help me here:

I set up Japanese input last year and it worked fine. I re-installed Trisquel and never ended up setting it up again. I setup Korean input today and it worked fine. When I went to setup Japanese input again it would not switch over. Then I installed Kazakh and it would not switch over.

I deleted languages from the IBus preferences and as long as I had just English and X, X worked fine if it was Japanese, Korean or Kazakh. So I have gone through the right process to install them. However I can only have two.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should try next?

Hi:

Are you just trying to switch between language keyboard combo's?

That may not of been the best thing:-

Perhaps (not sure) that's why you can only have 2 languages. Maybe only having 2 to choose from is the default?

Try reinstalling and don't delete the ibus preferences this time:-
See the man page for ibus.

Hi Ztcoracat

Thanks very much. I don't know if two is the default. I downloaded the IBus source. ./configure does not have an option for more. There is no documentation that speaks to any of as well.

The IBus google groups(user and devel) did not seem to take my posts, I don't know why. I have emailed the project maintainer. I will post back here if I have a solution.

If you can only have two scripts, you could always have multiple users and log out and in again if you need to use Korean instead of Japanese. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Thanks David

I found a solution.

for anyone needing an answer, use the command interface not ibus-setup.

type ibus list-engine

pick out what you want
type ibus engine whatever-you-want

if will switch over.

however I don't know how to switch back once you are over. I mapped the keys to various commands. I used ctrl-F1 F2 etc.

Now I can switch between 7 scripts and I still have room for many more.

Thanks again guys
