How do I set minimum volume in Alsa?

My laptop, Dell eStudio 1737, has good maximum volume, but when I turn down the volume to a little more than 1/2 way, it is already very low. All other volume controls are already set to maximum. What I would like to do is fix the volume control so that the volume can be set across the entire range of the Alsa mixer control. Ideas?

what distro are you using . If Fedora 11 there has been a sound bug for the last 5 months.

Fedora 10. Sound works fine, just that minimum is set too low.

What sound card do you have in that? Could be a driver problem.
