How can I set Java to use Chinese fonts?

I installed java SDK 1.4.2. When I go to go.icq.com, the webICQ, which is using java, cant display Chinese nicknames. How can I enalbe Chinese support in java? AFAIK, java supports double byte characters, so I think I just need to set it to use Chinese fonts.

Thanks

Look in java's font.properties files. If you have the JRE, it will be in JREDIR/lib/, for the SDK it is SDKDIR/jre/lib. I know for japanese, you remove font.properties and replace it with font.properties.ja which is in the same directory. Chinese would be similar, I'm not sure if there is a font file there for it, but you probably can find one online if none is supplied.

Thank you very much, rtaft!!! It's awesome. I can use chinese now. There's indeed a file called font.properties.ja.Redhat8.0.

Thanks again.

In windows the font directory for my fonts is set to C:\winnt\fonts\ what is the default fonts director for Linux? Is it ../jre/lib/fonts.

Well, it depends on your setup. Generally they are in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts and /usr/share/fonts
