something happened to my computer when i installed a new hard drive, as a secondary... i did not move anything from my old one. now i currently have 2 hard drives. and even though i added it as the secondary slave, and the primary hd stayed in the same place, as the secondary master, lilo says that it can not find linux... so now i need to put in a boot disk, but i dont know which is my boot partition.... i get confused because before, i had my hd as the secondary master, and in lilo it was booting from
/dev/hdd6
and i dont have 6 partitions... well, basically, my question is how can i find where my boot partition is, in the hdxy format??
Put in a recovery cd for your distro or just put in one of their cd's because they usually have either a live-mode off the cd or a way to locate your root partition
i know mandrake has some sort of recovery method, but i'm not sure what it does
either way, once it has loaded up linux (either live or from the root partition), become root and then do fdisk -l and find out which one has the correct size for your boot partition (it is normally 100 megs)
Shouldn't you have it setup as hd1 is master and hd2 as pri slave... which would read as hda and hda2. Your boot partition will be under whatever hd you set as master. Anyways, if you have a boot disk it will skip lilo and go into linux, and under there you'll be able to run liloconfig which will allow you to setup lilo the way you need it.
If this doesn't help I'm sorry, I'm still a newb to linux
boot using the first cd of ur linux distribution and then go through the initial steps to view.... the different partitions... or else with a boot floppy boot into linux and then just check with the /etc/fstab it will show u the partitions or else try the mount command to see which all partitions is mounted and where it is mounted... the /boot partition is the partition which will be first place which starts boooting.....
